Inviga partners with Brisbane Catholic Education to implement a cost-effective Student Progress Monitoring Solution.

Working with Inviga, Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) is making significant strides in enhancing its student progress monitoring and reporting system.
Recognising the importance of advancing literacy assessments, BCE has worked with Inviga to design and build a monitoring solution and has integrated the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) into this framework. This initiative will provide a more comprehensive view of students’ literacy development, enabling targeted support and early intervention strategies.
With this enhanced system, teachers can easily identify students in need of additional support, allowing for early intervention and targeted learning activities. The solution’s adaptability also facilitates retesting, ensuring that progress is continually monitored, and students receive the necessary assistance to achieve their literacy goals.

A Smarter Approach to Literacy Assessment
The solution includes the development of dynamic, adaptable forms that allow for seamless data input and management. This user-friendly system supports various learning methodologies and can readily evolve to meet future educational needs. By opting for a custom-built approach, BCE ensures flexibility in the system while avoiding expensive third-party licensing fees.
The system was built using React dynamic forms and stores data in SQL Server, enabling seamless integration with Power BI for real-time data visualisation and reporting. The entire solution is hosted on BCE’s Microsoft Azure tenant, leveraging Azure’s scalable and secure infrastructure to ensure accessibility and reliability.

Three-Phase Implementation Strategy
Inviga’s approach to implementing this solution was structured into three key phases:

  1. Development of the dynamic forms solution – Creating a system that is both efficient and adaptable to BCE’s requirements.
  2. Implementation within the BCE environment – Integrating the new solution into BCE’s existing infrastructure and systems ensuring compatibility and ease of use.
  3. Operationalisation and optimisation – Finalising the deployment and assisting with the roll out across teaching staff and ensuring the system is fully functional for widespread use.

This phased strategy allows BCE to proactively tackle challenges, fine-tune the system, and ensure it aligns perfectly with their operational needs.

Cost Savings and Financial Efficiency
One of the most significant advantages of this new approach is the drastic reduction in licensing costs. The previous solution was costing BCE over $90,000 per year in licensing fees. BCE also considered a third-party solution that was designed to address Dibels only, which would have cost $2 million.

The new custom-built React-based system, hosted in Azure, was delivered for a fraction of the cost of the other options and reduces ongoing costs to around $200 per month, as it eliminates user-based licenses. This massive cost reduction ensures a sustainable, long-term solution that can be scaled efficiently without incurring prohibitive fees.

The Expected Impact
The collaboration between BCE and Inviga is set to deliver several key benefits:

  • Enhanced data collection and reporting capabilities for improved decision-making.
  • Better support for diverse learning methodologies, enabling tailored educational strategies.
  • A cost-effective solution that reduces reliance on high-cost licensing models.
  • Scalability and flexibility, ensuring the system can adapt to future educational advancements.

Laying the Foundation for Future Growth
This initiative is more than just an implementation of DIBELS; it is about future-proofing BCE’s educational technology so that other pedagogical frameworks can be implemented on the solution over time. By implementing a dynamic and adaptable system, BCE is setting a strong foundation for ongoing innovation in student assessment and support.

Inviga is proud to collaborate with BCE on this transformative project, reinforcing its commitment to delivering tailored, scalable, and cost-effective IT solutions for the education sector. Together, they are shaping the future of student literacy assessment, ensuring that BCE can continue to support and empower learners in an evolving educational landscape.
